What are the main challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean regarding social protection? How should the region prepare for population aging? Is there a risk that future pensions will not be paid? What public policies must be implemented to ensure the viability of social security systems that already exist? Finding answers to these questions is not an easy task, and would be impossible without researchers and students researching these topics. Therefore, with the aim of promoting research on employment, pensions, education, housing, health and other related matters, the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) are launching the Inter-American Award for Research on Social Protection.
If you are passionate about research on social protection and have a research article that makes a valuable contribution to the design of public policies, this is your chance. Take part in this competition, in which the most outstanding contributions will be rewarded with up to $ 12,000.00. The winning entries, as well as those considered worthy by the Evaluation Committee, will be published by the CISS and the IDB in print, electronic or internet, as deemed appropriate and respecting copyright restrictions.
The Evaluation Committee will especially consider research with a preventive approach to the development of public policies (those that propose sustainable ex-ante financing), research that takes an integrated view that combines the efforts of various governmental agencies, research focused on the evaluation of the impacts of public policies, and research that facilitates synergies for the participation of all economic, political and social agents.
The call for papers is now open. Proposals (in English, Spanish and Portuguese) should be sent electronically no later than June 30, 2015. How to participate? Check out the eligibility rules by clicking here. Your research can be helpful for the region, and you can make some money for yourself. Participate!
