About the Opening of Knowledge

Why should knowledge be open?

Open knowledge allows to expedite responses to various challenges, democratize the creation of solutions, and facilitate constant improvement and reuse of information and tools. This, among other benefits, enables cost savings and reduces duplication of efforts. In summary: opening knowledge generates and extends the impact of an action.

In the context of the fourth industrial revolution, at the IDB, we believe that open knowledge is key to the development of Latin American and the Caribbean countries. Knowing how to harness data, technology, and information management is critical to maintaining relevance in the new knowledge economy.

How to open knowledge?

If you have ever written and published an open access article or contributed to an open-source project in Github, you have already been part of the open knowledge movement. There are many paths to support and join efforts for opening knowledge, and a good way to start is by browsing the content of this blog.

The invitation remains open

Abierto al Público is yours. Explore our content, use the information, and share it if you believe it can benefit more people. Our commitment is to generate content related to open knowledge that can support and accelerate development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

We welcome you to Abierto al Público and remember: our blog is also built by our dear readers.
