Applications are now open for the executive program on macro-financial policymaking in emerging markets, jointly organized by Columbia University and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Policymakers from emerging economies worldwide are welcome to apply to the course that will take place in New York on April 24-28. The IDB will offer tuition waivers to up to 15 policymakers from Latin America and the Caribbean.
The joint program between the IDB and the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) of Columbia University is aimed at policymakers from emerging-market governments and international financial institutions as well as market analysts. In past years, attendees have included Paraguay’s Finance minister Santiago Peña, Nicaragua’s Finance minister Iván Acosta, and Honduras’ former Central Bank president Marlon Tábora, among other high-level Latin American officials.

After seven very successful, fully subscribed courses, the eighth edition of the training program will provide both analytical and quantitative tools based on state-of-the-art emerging-market knowledge. Led by a world-renowned faculty that includes Guillermo Calvo and Santiago Levy, the course will be given at Columbia University’s campus in Manhattan, New York City.
The intensive, practice-focused program generates an environment that promotes discussion as it provides tools to help policymakers analyze, design, and implement macroeconomic and financial policies. It provides networking opportunities with other policymakers from around the world and the course’s faculty, and includes an evening reception with graduate students from SIPA’s Program in Economic Policy Management (PEPM).
The IDB will offer up to 15 tuition waivers to government officials from Latin America and the Caribbean. Most of the 30-35 policymakers accepted into the program each year are usually from that region.
The deadline for applications is Friday March 17, 2017, and results will be announced by the end of that month. Program details regarding application and deadlines are available here.
