Matilde Urquizo
Matilde Urquizo is an energy consultant with over 15 years of experience advancing the energy transition in Latin America. Her expertise spans clean and low-emission hydrogen development, industrial decarbonization, renewable energy integration, and geothermal energy. At the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), she has contributed to strategic climate finance initiatives, technical cooperation, and the design and implementation of national and regional programs, including the CertHiLAC certification scheme for clean hydrogen and the RELAC renewable energy initiative. Previously, she held technical and leadership roles at Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador, where she led the country’s geothermal development. Matilde holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, a master’s in Renewable Energies from the University of Zaragoza, and additional diplomas in Project Management and Finance (Iceland) and Geothermal Energy (El Salvador). She is Ecuador’s Ambassador for Women in Geothermal (WING), a founding member and first president of the Ecuadorian Geothermal Association, and an active promoter of the ELLA network for women in energy.
