Medical surgeon, Miskito feminist and indigenous activist from Nicaragua. She has participated in political-social processes linked to the struggle for the rights of women and indigenous peoples of Latin America. She has been coordinator of the Indigenous Chair of the Intercultural Indigenous University. Today she is president of the Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC) and of the Association for Women's Rights and Development (AWID), after being in charge, until 2013, of the Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues of the United Nations.
