IDB Research Department Seeks Research Economist

The Research Department of the IDB is accepting applications from Research Economists

Do you want to combine your analytical skills and research drive with an opportunity to influence policymakers and improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean?

The Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is currently accepting applications from research economists with well-developed technical skills, a record of—or prospects of—high quality original research in peer reviewed publications and the ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences.

The successful candidate joins a staff of people drawn from all parts of the world, strong academic backgrounds, and in some cases, experience in the private sector and policymaking. This combination of talents gives the department the ability to collaborate with other areas of the Bank and discuss the main challenges of the region with the most influential policymakers in Latin American and the Caribbean in areas like macroeconomics, labor, institutions, trade and others.

Staff members publish, attend conferences, meet with policymakers and help in the preparation of highly publicized annual reports. They interact with leaders in their fields from outside the IDB at weekly seminars and travel the region and the world. In all those activities, they can count on the considerable resources and support systems that the department provides, including a strong administrative staff and research assistants to keep them creative and productive.

Established in 1994 to provide cutting-edge policy-oriented research at the Bank, the Research Department continues to pursue its mission to better the lives of people in the region within a friendly and collegial atmosphere that blends veterans with more than two decades of experience with a large crop of young economists who have finished their Ph.D.’s in the last five years.

If that appeals to you and you have a Ph.D in economics, or are close to completing one,  as well as a working knowledge of at least two official IDB languages (English, French, Portuguese and Spanish) and are passionate about working on topics relevant to development in Latin America and the Caribbean, please apply for a full-time staff position at the Research Department.

More information can be found here. Applications are due November 26, 2018.
