It was the Christmas of 2012 that country office Trinidad and Tobago selected the Marian Villas to be the recipients of a Christmas donation. That year we purchased nineteen (19) boxes of adult disposable briefs for the patients of the home. Megan and I were tasked with the coordination and delivery of the items.
We arrived at Khandhar Street in St James and on our arrival we were greeted by the matron of the home, Ms Margo Williams.
Ms Williams is a lady, small in stature, with a warm personality, infectious smile and a fervent sense of humour. One could not help but adore this lady of 70 odd years. We were given a brief tour of the home and found that all her clients were confined to their beds. The place was pristinely clean and the staff possessed very amiable qualities. The donation was greatly appreciated by Ms Williams.
Country Office Trinidad and Tobago opted to make the same donation in both the Christmases of 2013 and 2014. After our visit and donation in that year, I felt moved to continue fostering a relationship with the home through a partnership. The idea was shared with my supervisor, Dorri, who I invited to the Villas in order to meet Ms Williams and to determine if it would be worthwhile to embark upon a year-long commitment with the Marian Villas. Dorri agreed!
At the office’s first staff meeting for the year 2015, the proposal was presented to the staff and it was unanimously agreed that monthly, everyone would contribute money that usually would be spent on lunch in aid of this project. From there, every four months, the money collected would be used to supply the home with whatever it is that THEY needed.
Ms Williams was brought to tears by our initial efforts and extended great thanks to the Country Office for what we had done.
THANK YOU CTT!!!
