The Country Department Caribbean invites you to view the Roundtable on Sir William Arthur Lewis’ 100 year anniversary that took place in Santa Cruz, Bolivia on October 14th. The Roundtable was hosted by The International Economic Association (IEA) and the Research Institute for Development, Growth and Economics (RIDGE), with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Over 20 Students from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) currently attending graduate programs in high-quality academic institutions in the US, Europe and LAC participated in the event and were able to generate a fruitful discussion after each of the event’s four sessions:
1) Sir Arthur Lewis – Historical Perspectives and his Legacy (Prof. Mark Figueroa and Prof. Luis Bértola)
2) Development issues in the Caribbean (Prof. Damien King and Prof. Andre Haughton)
3) New Perspectives in Development Economics A (Prof. Rafael di Tella and Prof. Hugo Hopenhayn)
4) New Perspectives in Development Economics B (Prof. Benjamin Olken and Prof. Michael Kremer)
After watching the video you can answer: Does the Lewis Model help explain China’s economic growth? Is it helpful in explaining our economies today? Who the heck was Arthur Lewis?
