María Alejandra es especialista en riesgo de desastres y cambio climático de la División de Medio Ambiente, Desarrollo Rural y Gestión de Riesgo de Desastres del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo. En el pasado ha trabajado en consultoría para proyectos ambientales y gestión de riesgos de desastres, con énfasis en modelación del riesgo y amenazas naturales. Es ingeniera civil y ambiental y cuenta con una Maestría en Ingeniería Civil en el área de Ingeniería y Gestión Ambiental con énfasis en investigación (Universidad de Los Andes, Colombia) y una Maestría en Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible (University College London UCL). Su interés se centra en integrar medidas de resiliencia en proyectos de desarrollo.
