Janine Ferretti es la jefa de la Unidad De Salvaguardas Ambientales del BID. La Sra. Ferretti se unió al BID en 2003 después de haber sido directora ejecutiva de la Comisión para la Cooperación Ambiental (CEC, por sus siglas en inglés) de América del Norte, donde dirigió iniciativas ambientales regionales y supervisó los hallazgos independientes de los hechos en respuesta a denuncias públicas sobre la no aplicación de las leyes ambientales. Anteriormente, la Sra. Ferretti fue directora ejecutiva de Pollution Probe y trabajó con el Centro Internacional de Enlace Ambiental (ELCI, por sus siglas en inglés), y la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (IUCN, por sus siglas en inglés). La Sra. Ferretti tiene un M.E.S. en Política Ambiental de la Universidad de York (Toronto, Canadá), y una Licenciatura en Estudios Ambientales de la Universidad de California, Santa Cruz.
