The Caribbean and Coronavirus: Options for Businesses

April 22, 2020 by Golda Lee Bruce Leave a Comment

COVID-free corridors for Caribbean tourists is just one of the options stakeholders are putting on the table to spark a revival of the tourism sector. Vincent Vandepool- Wallace of The BedfordBaker Group disclosed that talks are already underway with international health and tourism officials to create “safe zones” for tourists to visit the region. Vanderpool-Wallace who is also the former Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation was a panelist in webinar hosted by IDB Caribbean The Caribbean and Coronavirus: Options for Businesses which was held on April 20th, 2020.

The other panelists where Allison Peart, Managing Director of A. Peart Advisory Services Ltd of Jamaica and Zulfikar Ally, President of The American Chamber of Commerce in Guyana. It was a wide-ranging discussion on the impact of the economic slowdown on businesses, options for adaptation and diversification as well as retaining staff. Peart, an accountant by profession, urged businesses operating in the informal sector to formalise their operations to be able to access help from governments. And Ally urged business owners to consider all options before resorting to layoffs.
