Leonardo Garnier

Asesor especial del secretario general de las Naciones Unidas para la “Transforming Education Summit”. Licenciado en Ciencias Económicas por la Universidad de Costa Rica y doctorado en Economía por la New School for Social Research de Nueva York. Es catedrático en la Universidad de Costa Rica, donde ha trabajado como profesor de la Escuela de Economía, e investigador del Instituto de Investigaciones en Ciencias Económicas. Ha sido profesor universitario desde 1975 y ha ejercido diversos cargos en el sector público costarricense. Ejerció el cargo de ministro de Educación Pública de Costa Rica y fue ministro de Planificación Nacional y Política Económica. Ha trabajado como profesor para de la Maestría Centroamericana en Política Económica del Centro Internacional de Política Económica (CINPE) y como asesor para la Cátedra Víctor Sanabria, ambos de la Universidad Nacional. Trabaja como consultor en temas de política económica, política social y gestión pública para diversos organismos internacionales como el Programa de Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD), el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), el Banco Mundial (BIRF), la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) y, en especial, para el Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (UNICEF). Fue miembro del Consejo Científico del Centro Latinoamericano de Administración para el Desarrollo (CLAD).
