Juan Pablo Bonilla

Juan Pablo Bonilla is the Manager of the IDB's Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector (CSD). Previously, he was Chief of Staff to the Executive Vice President of the Bank.
Dr. Bonilla has worked on environmental sustainability, climate change and energy for more than 20 years. He led the IDB's Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Initiative, a major strategic step for integrating climate change and sustainability as a priority for the Bank. Before joining the IDB, Dr. Bonilla worked as Senior Specialist at the World Bank, and was a member of the United Nation's CDM Executive Board. In Colombia, after serving as the Executive Director of a new think tank Fundesarrollo, and as National Environmental Manager of ANDI, Dr. Bonilla launched new initiatives such as the National Climate Change Policy and the National Biotechnology Policy as principal advisor to the country's Vice President. Dr. Bonilla served as Deputy Minister of Environment, and acting Minister of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development. Dr. Bonilla obtained a B.A. in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, and then received a M.Sc. in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering and a Ph.D. in Environmental and Energy Management from George Washington University.

Juan Pablo Bonilla é gerente do Setor de Mudança Climática e Desenvolvimento Sustentável (CSD) do Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento. Anteriormente, ele atuou como Chefe de Gabinete do Vice-Presidente Executivo do BID. O Dr. Bonilla trabalha com sustentabilidade ambiental, mudanças climáticas e energia há mais de 20 anos, liderando a Iniciativa de Energia Sustentável e Mudanças Climáticas do BID, um importante passo estratégico para integrar mudanças climáticas e sustentabilidade como uma prioridade para o Banco. Antes de ingressar no BID, ele trabalhou como Especialista Sênior no Banco Mundial e foi membro do Conselho Executivo do MDL das Nações Unidas. Na Colômbia, depois de atuar como Diretor Executivo de um novo think tank Fundesarrollo, e como Gerente Ambiental Nacional da ANDI, o Dr. Bonilla lançou novas iniciativas, como a Política Nacional de Mudanças Climáticas e a Política Nacional de Biotecnologia, como principal assessor do Vice-Presidente do país. O Dr. Bonilla atuou como Vice-Ministro do Meio Ambiente e Ministro em exercício do Meio Ambiente, Habitação e Desenvolvimento Territorial. O Dr. Bonilla é bacharel em Engenharia Civil pela Universidad Javeriana em Bogotá, Colômbia, tem um mestrado em Engenharia de Gestão e Engenharia de Sistemas, e um Ph.D. em Gestão Ambiental e Energética pela George Washington University.
