Michele Lemay

La Sra. Lemay ha estado dirigiendo el Programa de Biodiversidad y Servicios Ecosistémicos (BIO) del BID desde su creación en 2012, además ha encabezado iniciativas piloto destinadas a la incorporación de capital natural en sectores económicos como el turismo en Belice y planes de desarrollo multisectorial de las Bahamas. Como especialista líder en recursos naturales del BID, también supervisa equipos de proyectos multidisciplinares en diseño y análisis de los préstamos de inversión del sector público y fondos de donaciones en materia de gestión integrada de las zonas costeras, la pesca, el turismo, la conservación marina y la seguridad de la tenencia de la tierra en América Latina y el Caribe. Antes de incorporarse al Banco en 1992, la Sra. Lemay trabajó con la Administración Oceánica y Atmosférica Nacional (NOAA) en la planificación y gestión de áreas marinas protegidas y con el Centro de Recursos Costeros de la Universidad de Rhode Island dirigiendo los programas de gestión de zonas costeras integradas de América Latina y Asia. En 1998, la Sra. Lemay creó la primera estrategia para la gestión de los recursos costeros y marinos del BID, que supuso la transición hacia un enfoque de los sectores económicos en las zonas costeras basado en los ecosistemas.

Ms. Lemay has been heading the IDB Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BIO) Program since its inception in 2012 as well as spearheading pilot initiatives aimed at mainstreaming natural capital in economic sectors such as tourism in Belize and in development planning The Bahamas. As lead natural resources specialist at the IDB, she also oversees multi-disciplinary project teams in the design and analysis of public sector investment loans and grants in integrated coastal zone management, fisheries, tourism, marine conservation and land tenure security throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to joining the Bank in 1992, Ms. Lemay worked with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in marine protected area planning and management and with the Coastal Resources Center of the University of Rhode Island on piloting integrated coastal zone management programs in Latin America and Asia. In 1998, Ms. Lemay authored the IDB’s first institution-wide strategy for coastal and marine resources management, marking the transition towards an ecosystem-based approach to economic sectors in the coastal zone.
