The recent agreement to tackle climate change made in Paris in December 2015 aims to ensure that the increase in average global temperature stays well below two degrees Celsius. It also recognizes the need to promote universal access to sustainable energy in developing countries through the increased deployment of renewable energy. Considering the above, the IDB aims to accelerate investment in sustainable energy in the region and has launched a call to support companies that are interested in contributing to and developing such projects.
Do you have a renewable energy project that you are developing or that needs to be developed?
If the answer is yes, then this is your opportunity to take steps to make it happen. The IDB has launched a call for proposals in coordination with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), to support renewable energy projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.
How can this IDB call for proposals help me?
The IDB will select a small number of projects for technical assistance to be provided by specialized companies. This technical assistance may take the form of social, environmental, financial, technical and economic feasibility, due diligence, evaluation or legal structure studies, among other requirements needed to proceed with the project.
How else can my project benefit from this call for proposals?
By registering your project on the Sustainable Energy Marketplace website you will become a part of an extensive database of projects in the region that can be accessed by multiple lenders. These entities may contact you to discuss financing or investment opportunities. Additionally, you will have access to a database of financial institutions and service providers, among others, and will be able to contact them to support your project if desired.
What types of projects are eligible?
The IDB is seeking renewable energy projects connected to the network or even outside the network and projects related to improved stoves. Projects must use commercially proven technology and have a minimum total cost of US $ 250,000. Projects are expected to be in progress since the objective is to support businesses that will carry out their projects soon. For more details see the call for proposals here.
How do I register?
All proposals must be submitted via the Sustainable Energy Marketplace website which is administered by the IRENA. Companies must register and submit their project proposals in line with the schedule and details provided on the Sustainable Energy Marketplace call for proposals.
All that remains now is to decide to participate in this process so that together we can achieve a more sustainable future in Latin America and the Caribbean!
