BID-FEMSA 2020 Award: calling out innovations in water, sanitation and solid waste management

The BID-Femsa 2020 Award for the most innovative solutions in water, sanitation and solid waste awards prizes of up to US $ 10,000 three winners in each category.

Many of the great innovations in history have emerged at times of greatest need. 2020 has undoubtedly been one of the most critical years for our generation. But it can also be a year of great innovations that help us overcome historical challenges, such as inequality in water, sanitation and solid waste management services.

This year the BID-FEMSA Award will be held entirely in virtual format through www.premiobidfemsa.com. In this edition, the Prize grants a stimulus of US $ 10 thousand to each of the winners of the three categories that will be awarded in 2020: Water Category, Sanitation Category and Solid Waste Category.

The pandemic has made innovation in these three sectors more important now than ever, so the innovative solutions in water, sanitation and/ or solid waste that addresses the issue of Coronavirus (COVID-19) will be get a special recognition award this year.

The BID-FEMSA Award, granted by the IDB’s water and sanitation division and the FEMSA Foundation, recognizes each year the most innovative solutions with proven results to overcome deficiencies and challenges in the water, sanitation and solid waste management sectors. The prize has been awarded since 2009 to creative and innovative ventures, products, initiatives or services that already have positive and demonstrable impacts and results in these sectors.

They can participate, innovations with development of solutions or products implemented and in execution for a minimum time of 6 months and a maximum of four years from the time of opening of this call.

The call is open from June 25 to August 9, 2020. The complete rules of the contest and the electronic application form are available on the official page of the call for the BID-FEMSA 2020 Award at www.premiobidfemsa.com in Spanish and English. Organizations or enterprises that wish to apply can present their solution in the IDB’s four official languages ​​(English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French) and refer their queries to [email protected]

The Prize will be presented in a virtual live ceremony at the beginning of December 2020 in which the finalists will have the opportunity to present their solution to the judges and the participating public.

As in previous years, all participants must submit as part of their registration a video of no more than two minutes in which they explain their innovative solution. Here you can meet the winners of the previous editions of the BID-FEMSA Award.

An initial jury made up of experts from the water and sanitation sector will select a maximum of seven (7) candidate solutions as finalists, who will be invited to participate in the final stretch to compete for the first place in each category of the award. The selected finalists will compete by presenting their solution in a “pitch by fire” format of a maximum of 2 minutes, before a final jury, made up of experts and industry leaders worldwide, who will choose the three winners,

Anamaría Núñez Zelaya

Anamaría Núñez is a Water and Sanitation Sr. Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC. Among her main responsibilities in the Division, Anamaría is in charge of gender and inclusion aspects, is part of the Haiti team, in addition to supporting initiatives related to knowledge dissemination particularly linked to human rights, out-of-home water and sanitation services and innovation. Anamaria also leads and is part of initiatives related to strategic partnerships. Anamaría has a master’s degree in international relations from the Paris Institute of Political Sciences (Sciences Po Paris) and another master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University.
