Diana Rodríguez Franco is the Special Advisor on Gender and Diversity to the President of the IDB. Diana has nearly 20 years of experience in gender equality and human rights. She has a track record in creating and implementing social justice and women's rights initiatives in both governmental and non-governmental contexts in Latin America. As former Secretary for Women in the city of Bogotá (2020-2023), Diana conceived and implemented innovative and internationally recognized public policies to address unpaid care work (in particular, the “Manzanas del Cuidado”), close employment gaps, and respond to gender-based violence, in addition to mainstreaming gender perspectives throughout the government and building partnerships with the private sector. Prior to that position, Diana was Deputy Director of Dejusticia, a non-profit research center that promotes human rights and the social rule of law in Colombia and Latin America, where she oversaw the areas of economic justice, environmental justice, and internationalization. Diana holds a PhD and a master's degree in Sociology from Northwestern University and a degree in Economics and Law from the University of Los Andes in Bogotá. She has taught at various universities and published numerous books and academic articles.
