Hosted in the Brazilian Amazonia, set to take place in Belém, Brazil, COP30 represents a pivotal moment for the conservation and sustainable development of the region. As the first COP hosted in Amazonia, it will take place in the world’s largest tropical forest, home to nearly 60 million people and a territory that covers 42% of the territory in Latin America and the Caribbean.
COP30 offers a historic opportunity to mobilize large-scale financing, for nature-based solutions, Indigenous-led conservation, and sustainable economic models.
IDB, through its Amazonia Forever Regional Coordination Program, is partnering with Goeldi Museum and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil – MCTI, to host the Amazônia Sempre Station throughout the two weeks of COP30, between 8-21 November, 2025. The Station will promote an Amazonia-focused agenda with the goal of promoting more powerful and inclusive dialogues about Amazonia.
This collaborative space will highlight Amazonia’s key role in global climate action and its nexus with biodiversity and cultural richness. The program of the Amazônia Sempre Station is being carefully curated to represent a co-creation process of multiple organizations and stakeholders working and living in Amazonia, while showcasing the diversity of the territory, and demonstrating concrete action in alignment with COP30 Presidency’s Action Agenda.
The program of activities and events of the Amazônia Sempre Station will follow four thematic tracks:
(1) bioeconomy and creative economies, demonstrating the pathways for advancing a bioeconomic transition in Amazonia and the creative economies, including gastronomy, tourism and other services;
(2) resilient cities and sustainable infrastructure, aiming at improving resilience and sustainability of urban territories in Amazonia through territorial action, intelligence work and stakeholder engagement;
(3) innovative and inclusive financing: accelerating financial flows to Amazonia countries and territories through innovative and inclusive financial instruments and mechanisms, with a lens of closing the financing-impact gap; and
(4) emerging themes for resilience increase: addressing a peoples-centered focus with adaptation and resilience as a priority, including water security, social protection, public security, disaster risk management, education, health, and transport in Amazonia.
The Amazônia Sempre Station will leverage the Museum’s historical significance and scientific expertise, creating a unique space to amplify knowledge and action within the climate dialogue. The partnership between IDB’s Amazonia Forever and the Goeldi Museum transcends the duration of COP30, as it also aims to support the restoration of the Museum’s infrastructure to continue functioning as a place for encounters, exchanges and research into the region’s indigenous and scientific knowledge.
The Amazônia Sempre Station will offer two collaborative spaces during COP30: a Chalet and the Auditorium at the Centro de Exposições Eduardo Galvão in the Museum Goeldi. The thematic program of the Station will offer visitants and participants the opportunity to join meaningful and substantial discussions in these two collaborative spaces offering an open door to the Amazonia territory, a close collaboration with key partners such as the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the Swiss Government and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Agreement (ACTO).
The program of the Amazônia Sempre Station will be available here on October 6, and will be updated regularly.
