Announcement: The Ninth Citizen Security Week 2017 will be held in Colombia

A livestream transmission is available

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Vice Presidency of the Republic of Colombia, together with the Municipalities of Bogota and Medellin and with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, will hold the Ninth Citizen Security Week in Colombia, from November 27th to December 1st, 2017.

The Citizen Security Week is the most important regional event on citizen security and justice in Latin America and the Caribbean.

On this occasion, the event will discuss the challenges faced by States to generate legitimacy and trust in the implementation of citizen security policies: one of the greatest challenges for authorities in the region. In this sense, the Citizen Security Week is a space for authorities and experts to exchange experiences and lessons learned, both in Latin America and the Caribbean and in other parts of the world, and work closely to address comprehensively this common challenge.

The Citizen Security Week has two main components. The Regional Policy Dialogue, which will kick-off on November 27th in Bogotá, is a high-level meeting where the region’s Ministers of Security/Interior discuss the developments and challenges faced by citizen security and justice policies in the region. Following the Dialogue, the Citizen Security Clinic will kick-off on November 30th in Medellin, where technical and specialized knowledge on citizen security will be exchanged.

The Regional Policy Dialogue is by invitation only, but you can participate in the Citizen Security Clinic. The Citizen Security Clinic will also be livestreamed and some panels will be broadcasted through Periscope on Twitter, in the original language. We will keep you informed through our Twitter account @BID_Seguridad with the #SemanaSeguridad hashtag.

The agenda and presentations can be downloaded here and we will be blogging occasionally on what happens during the Week. We invite you to watch this informative video to learn more about the scope of the event.

Barbara Cedillo is a Citizen Security and Justice consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C.
