Call for proposals for the most creative NGOs in DC

The IDB is kicking off its 2017 application process for the Improving Lives Grant this Tuesday, March 28^th, at 12PM EST!

This year, we will identify 10 of the most inspiring and creative initiatives that primarily address the challenges of the Latino and Caribbean communities located in the Washington DC metropolitan area, our own neighborhood. The Improving Lives Grant competition consists of a comprehensive approach that combines financial assistance of up to U$25,000 and pro-bono volunteerism to assist the top 10 nonprofit organizations implementing the winning initiatives.

In 2016, the IDB broadened the reach of its grants program to include organizations located in the Washington DC metropolitan area (DC/VA/MD) that serve disadvantaged Latino and Caribbean communities. That same year, 54 applications were received and 5 organizations were awarded for their social innovation efforts, namely CentroNia, Collaborative Solutions for Communities (CSC), DC Doors, Edu-Futuro and Nueva Vida. These grant winners improved the lives of more than 1,200 people in the community.

Danielle M. Reyes, Executive Director at The Crimsonbridge Foundation, stated: “I want to commend you for the work and thoughtfulness you have put into transforming the process of the IDB’s local philanthropy. As a committee member, it was a pleasure participating in the process and I truly enjoyed hearing directly from these leaders. It was very impressive to see such polished presentations – their passion certainly came through. I also appreciate that you gave them the opportunity to specifically call out their needs and present opportunities for IDB staff to volunteer.”

Today, 56.6 million Latinos live in the United States (17.6% of the U.S. population). Unfortunately, one in four Latinos still lives in poverty in the United States (13.6 million). At the IDB, we seek to improve the lives of the Latin American and Caribbean communities in the Washington DC metropolitan area by supporting our local nonprofit organizations through corporate philanthropy, volunteerism, in-kind donations and fundraising campaigns.
