More than 70 million people live in the countries conforming the Mesoamerican region (Central America and Mexico). Nearly 40 million of them live in a situation of poverty and have a high risk of poor nutrition. What´s their future like? Unfortunately, this specially affects mothers and newborn children. They are the ones showing the worst health indicators, but luckily their situation is not irreversible. Nowadays there are standard, cheap treatments and of proven effectiveness that integrally administered during the first 1,000 days of life of a baby (9 months of pregnancy and the first two years of life) have an exponential multiplying effect.
In the next session of the TEDxChange Emma Iriarte, IDB Health Specialist, will talk about how to change the life of millions of poor people in the Mesoamerican region.
