A Tribute to Mothers

03334_0014

To the one who has long been the backbone of Caribbean societies, picking up the slack where others may have let go. And to the one who has decided to put her dream on hold so that she can help her child live out his or her dream. And to the one who is suddenly not hungry anymore when her child wants a bite of her food. And to the one who loses sleep trying to soothe away bad dreams and nurse her sick back to health. Thank you.

And to the one who spends all she has so that her child receives the best. And to the one who acts as chef, maid, doctor, banker, cheerleader and sometimes referee. And to the one who never misses an award ceremony, recital, game or competition. And to the one who, too, hurts when her child is in pain. Thank you.

And to the one who never stops believing that her child can do it or that her child can change. And to the one who shows remarkable speed or strength when her child is in harm’s way. And to the one who diligently memorized every phobia, dislike or fear and becomes a human shield. And finally, to the one who never stops praying or hoping for the best. Thank you.

You have lovingly cultivated and nurtured leaders and change-makers in our societies. Your instinctive call to nurture has made a difference in the lives of many today. Your tireless efforts and enduring strength is noticed. We simply wanted to say, thank you.

Happy Mother’s Day.
