L’Acadco is widely regarded as Jamaica’s leading contemporary dance company, and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The IDB had the honor of hosting the dance group on September 6th, 2013. L’Acadco’s work exudes a revolutionary fusion of rich Caribbean folklore with contemporary themes. Twenty dancers classically trained in jazz, ballet and African dance have come from Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Guyana, the Bahamas, Suriname and Jamaica visited Washington, D.C. Artistic Director Dr. L’Antoinette Stines uses an eclectic Caribbean contemporary technique called L’Antech which synthesizes Jamaican Afro-Caribbean forms, and contains elements of reggae, rocksteady, ska, dancehall and raga; it also has a distinctive spiritual element that unites body, mind and soul. L’Acadco’s performances were fabulous! We hope you enjoy the photos and the short clip below of their performance at the IDB hosted by the IDB’s Cultural Center. You can watch the full performance on the Kennedy Center’s website.
